Why we use Boran cattle?

Breeding Goals:

We as BFT Borane thrive to produce medium frame stud cattle with brand NEW and top genetics for the Boran Community to expand their herd with a bonus on a great feed turnover to weight at minimum cost. The animals have the potential to build a strong long-lasting herd.

Our Boran’s Fertility:

The bull for your eye produces quick growing calves, very fertile, is easy to handle and calm and keeps his condition right through the year. We strive to produce bulls that will produce bigger frame, muscular bull calves that will work for any herd of cattle and also bigger frame heifer calves that has a great calving ease, heavier wean weight, with a shorter ICP and a fast calf growth. Producing hard, strong bulls will increase the interactions in the cow herds increasing your pregnancy %.  We test our semen quality every year.

The heifer that will catch your eye calves easy, keeps her condition after calving, a shorter ICP and will give you a hell of a calf that will grow at the blink of an eye. Producing bull calves with a bigger, muscular frame that will work for any herd of cattle and also produce heifer calves that has a great calving ease, heavier wean weight, with a shorter ICP and a fast calf growth.

Our Boran’s adaptability:

The Boran is a smaller frame animal that will graze more animals on a hectare and having a faster turnover from grass to meat. Our Boran cattle will easily adapted moving from sourveld to sweetveld without their condition dropping. Boran cattle will adapted to the harshest conditions, HOT and even Cold, no wonder they come out the middle of AFRICA.

The smaller frame Boran will make it easier to work with and will stay calm. The maintenance on their condition will be a lot less to keep it on top. Their frame and growth will give you a faster turnover in feedlots.

The Boran cow will provide her calf with a natural tolerance to ticks and strong immunity to any diseases. This is passed on to the calf through the cow’s colostrum in the first few hours and days after birth.

Our cattle’s grazing:

Summer and spring time the cattle mainly graze on sweet yet sourveld grass with phosphate blocks giving them their salts in need.

Winter times the cattle get a mix winter lick of maize for protein with Dryveld 46 for the older cattle and protein lick from Molatek for the younger cattle. To give them that energy to graze on the dry winter grass. Heifers and Weaned calves graze on maize residue for majority of the wintertime to increase their weight and ability ease mating. Oxen is given stooling rye and ryegrass under irrigation to help build their health during winter times too produce healthy and quality meat.
